We need to protect the jobs we have while growing new opportunities for wealth. The minimum wage has not been raised in almost thirty years. Kentuckians need a living minimum wage that automatically increases with inflation. The Republicans in office want to eliminate the KY income tax. This would greatly benefit those who make the most money while bankrupting our state. The rest of us would see virtually no benefits. I am in favor of eliminating Ky income tax for individuals making less than $70,000 per year and families making less than $140,000 per year, as well as rolling back tax breaks to big corporations and the wealthiest Kentuckians.
Every Republican has pledged to abolish the Affordable Care Act, eliminate Medicaid and Medicare as well as end Social Security. Almost 600,000 Kentuckians depend on the Affordable Care Act alone. Social Security doesn't add anything to the debt or deficit and is funded directly by wage earners and their employers. It is your money, don't let them take it from you.
Medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy for most Americans. As a business owner, Rhonda Davis knows that providing health insurance is the most expensive part of running a business. Most small businesses can not afford to offer this critical benefit.
Expanding Medicaid for uninsured as well as underinsured Kentuckians would help safeguard Kentuckians from crushing economic crisis due to illness as well as reduce that burden on companies.
Large companies that already offer health benefits could continue to do so while smaller businesses would be able to use those resources to expand their business, hire more help, and offer higher wages. All Kentuckians deserve to have access to quality healthcare.

Politicians should not be making medical decisions for anyone.
Kentucky Republicans support total abortion bans with the only exception being life of the mother. The Republican incumbent Adrienne Southworth even introduced a bill that would charge a woman with homicide if she was suspected of purposely ending her pregnancy for any reason. She also proposed a fetal personhood law that would bring all invitro fertilization (IVF) to a halt. The Republican abortion ban has led to multiple rural hospitals closing their maternity wards, further endangering pregnant women.
The KY government has claimed imminent domain over women's bodies. A woman should have power to make the best decision regarding her healthcare and reproductive choice. A woman shouldn't be beholden to an elected officials religious beliefs over her own.
Not every abortion is the result of an unwanted pregnancy. Abortions are healthcare and sometimes medically necessary to the survival of the woman.
A victim of sexual assault regardless of age should have the right to reclaim her power and dignity and decide what is the best for herself with regard to a pregnancy resulting from a violent attack of the most personal nature. The decision to become a mother should be between the pregnant woman, her doctors and her own beliefs.

Cannabis should be legal in all forms and available to anyone meeting the age requirements to purchase it. Kentucky hemp is rapidly becoming one of our largest agricultural commodities. Our current farm bill is restrictive to hemp farmers and retailers.
The hemp industry will be harmed by the new medical marijuana bills that allow more freedoms for marijuana growers than our hemp farmers. We need an equal playing field for hemp and marijuana. Both should be legal for adult users for medical and recreational use.
Gerrymandering is used in the Bluegrass to disenfranchise voters. It allows politicians to choose the voters instead of the other way around. I want to introduce legislation to end this practice and have the district lines drawn to empower the voters permanently. Term limits are needed to ensure politicians are motivated by helping Kentuckians, not just padding their pockets and keeping their jobs.
Public education is a right for all students. We need more teachers, bus drivers and support staff. Universal Pre K for all students is essential. Students need a safe environment to learn and our educators need to have their safety ensured. We need more after school programs aimed at helping students master what is being taught in the classroom as well as summer programs to help students at risk of falling behind. Teachers often work on their own time to grade papers, and make lesson plans. They deserve to be paid for all of their work and paid what they deserve. Hiring more support staff will support students and ensure their success!
Everyone should have the right to love who they love and exist in public without fear of being attacked. Discrimination in marriage, housing, healthcare, workplace, education, or in public businesses should not be tolerated against anyone including our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters.
I am a friend to coal miners, not coal mines. Coal mining companies receive billions of dollars in government subsidies but when miners are killed in the mining accidents or succumb to black lung disease the families receive little more than thoughts and prayers. We need to strengthen our regulations on safety for our miners that work to get the fuel that keeps us going.
The water crisis in Martin County should serve as a wake up call. This has been an ongoing problem for 25 years and is a direct result of the local coal mine spilling approximately 250 million gallons of coal mine fine refuse slurry into the local water supply.
We need to keep developing clean renewable energy so we can one day reach zero carbon emissions and help the miners transition to safer better paying jobs when that day comes.
Clean air and water should be a right as well as a priority. Kentucky needs to do more to protect our state resources and preserve them for our future generations.
